The Rolling Stones and New Jersey got a thing going on, and rock 'n' roll fans like it.
The upcoming Stones shows Thursday, May 23, and Sunday, May 26, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford will be the band's 27th and 28th concerts in the state.
The Rolling Stones' first show in Jersey was at Symphony Hall in Newark, then called the Mosque Theater, on Nov.
7, 1965 (they played two shows). A year later, they played the Steel Pier in Atlantic City, and two shows at Convention Hall in Asbury Park.
“It had been the hottest day of the year, and one somehow expected the extreme heat to dull the notorious fervor of the Stones’ fans,” wrote Linda Deutsch on July 3, 1966, for the Asbury Park Press.
“But neither heat wave or cadre of Asbury Park policemen did much to calm the over-wrought teenagers.”
